Advantages of Ultrasonic Testing
A great advantage of ultrasonic testings is that this method is able to detect flaws which would remain undetected using a conventional internal pressure test with water. E.g.:
- Undershootings in the wall thickness
- Separation in the cylinder wall
- Cracks in the transition area to base

Besides a better flaw detection, a further advantage of ultrasonic testing is that every detected flaw is reproducible. Moreover, the cylinder will not be damaged, it can be examined in operative condition. This reduces massively the work load. Ultrasonic testing is a fast test method which grants a high through-put rate and the consumption of resources (water, electricity, etc.) is kept very low.
At the end of a test cylcle you will be able to generate analysis and statistics. These informaiton allow to recognise critical cylinder series.
