Issue of the type approval

The requirement for this is a successfully completed type approval test for the container performed by an accredited and recognised test centre as well as a manufacturer quality assurance programme recognised by Swiss Safety Centre AG.
The approval holder may equally be the manufacturer or the user of the container. The approval holder is responsible for ensuring that the container is manufactured according to the type approval.

Labelling

The approval holder receives the UN mark for the tested type along with the type approval.
According to RID / ADR 6.1.3, the labelling on the container indicates that it corresponds to a successfully tested type and that it complies with the requirements of this chapter as long as these relate to the manufacture of the container rather than usage. It therefore follows that the label does not state what substance the container may be used for.

Validity of the type approval

Type approvals are valid for a maximum of 10 years, provided that no changes occur to the respective regulations.

Upon expiry of the validity period, the type approval may be checked for compliance with the transport regulations in force at the time, upon request by the approval holder.
If the type still complies with the applicable transport regulations, the type approval can be extended after performing a complete type test according to RID / ADR, Chapter 6.1.5.

Modification of the type approval

Changes to the type must be applied for by the approval holder and ratified by Swiss Safety Center AG.
A revision of the type approval and, if necessary, further inspections are necessary if those container specifications which are defined in the test report and in the type approval change.
The approval holder is obligated to apply to Swiss Safety Center AG for the necessary modifications to the type approval as a result of changes to the regulations.

Annulment of the type approval

Type approval of containers whose design no longer complies with the applicable transport regulations will be withdrawn.
