Summary

eduQua is the only Swiss quality label tailored exclusively to providers of continuing education. It sets and checks minimum criteria for the quality of further education providers. An eduQua-certified continuing education institution is characterised by accredited courses and seminars, high practical relevance of its courses, recognition of titles and qualifications, transparency and binding nature of programme content and concrete proof of quality.

eduQua pursues three overarching goals

  1. Ensuring and promoting the quality of continuing education programmes on the basis of the criteria defined by eduQua,
  2. Improving transparency for consumers,
  3. Creating a basis for official decisions (authorisation, subsidisation, etc.).

Development

In 1998, the cantonal vocational education and training and labour offices came together due to the lack of a binding basis for official decisions on the receipt of federal funds by continuing education and training providers. The Swiss quality label eduQua for continuing education institutions was subsequently developed under the auspices of OPET (Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology), SBBK (Swiss Conference of Vocational Education and Training Offices), seco (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs), SVEB (Swiss Association for Continuing Education and Training) and VSAA (Association of Swiss Employment Offices)

Since 2000, institutions active in the field of continuing and remedial education for adults have been able to provide evidence that they ensure and promote the quality of the institution in terms of six minimum standards, offer transparency for consumers and provide a clear basis for official decisions.

On the recommendation of the Swiss. Conference of Cantonal Directors of Education (EDK), the eduQua handbook was revised for the first time in 2004. The 3-year certification phase now begins with an on-site audit with annual interim audits. The second revision, accompanied by seco, SBBK, VSAA and SVEB, led to the new version eduQua:2012.

The eduQua:2012 version was approved by the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS) on 6 November 2012 as the normative basis for certification.

__________________________

The new version eduQua:2021 was published on 15 December 2021.
The transition period lasts until 30 June 2025 (3 years + 6 months due to the pandemic).

Certifications according to the new version are possible from 01.02.2022.

Initial certifications and recertifications according to eduQua:2012 are still possible until 31.12.2022.

Institutions with a valid eduQua:2012 certificate will switch to eduQua:2021 on the occasion of recertification.

Benefits

With the eduQua certificate, a continuing education institution gains competitive and market advantages.

The prerequisite for the fulfilment of official requirements is created.

The certificate provides impetus for quality development through preparation for certification, self-evaluation, course documentation, the on-site audit, the audit report, the annual interim audit and the renewal of eduQua certification every three years.

The certification process promotes the institution's own quality awareness, its commitment to continuously working on quality and making this visible to the outside world.
