Quality management

Quality in the healthcare sector is a federal concern that is realised through the federal government's quality strategy.

An open and actively practised quality management system ensures transparency and thus also trust and customer satisfaction. The quality of care for disabled, sick or elderly people in turn has a direct impact on their well-being.

The Health Insurance Act (KVG) therefore requires quality assurance for the care and healthcare sector to ensure that legal requirements are met, the transparency of services is guaranteed and clearly regulated responsibilities and competences are defined.

With optimised interfaces between the individual areas, there is more time for the core task: care and nursing. In addition, a functioning, practical management system provides the necessary security to fulfil the high demands placed on care and nursing.

Certification

With an "ISO certification", companies and institutions prove that they comply with standards for management systems such as ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management standards or ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety in companies.

This international standard focuses on customer orientation, continuous improvement of company structures and processes as well as the identification of risks - in healthcare facilities, especially with regard to patient safety.

ISO 9001 (quality management) can be expanded with ISO 14001 (environmental management), ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) and EN 15224 (a Europe-wide standard for QM systems in the healthcare sector) to form a process-orientated and integrated management system that creates comprehensive added value.

Organisations that focus on clear processes, access to knowledge and continuous improvement are by far more successful in competition. Which system is introduced and established in an organisation is decided by the top management.

In addition, certification is always of great benefit, as the entire certification process can reveal potential weaknesses that can be eliminated and optimised to improve and enhance quality. Quality management systems provide a guideline for this.

Widely used in the care and healthcare sector as the basis for quality management, the ISO 9001 standard is the frontrunner. Over many years, the standard has proven to be a valuable tool for organisations to meet their own quality requirements and keep pace with changing customer demands.

Relevant standards for this industry

ISO 9001
The QMS standard ISO 9001 is the world's leading QMS certification. It describes the entire quality management system as a model and is the basis for the development of a comprehensive QMS. By supplementing the required basic quality with an integrated and comprehensive quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001, the quality of care, management quality and support processes are harmonised.

EN 15224
EN 15224 is a management standard that is specifically aimed at and applied to social and healthcare facilities, such as hospitals, doctors' surgeries and care facilities. It is based on the structure of DIN EN ISO 9001, but has a more specific reference to the social and healthcare sector.

ISO 14001
The environmental management standard ISO 14001 defines globally recognised requirements for an environmental management system. It can be applied to both manufacturing and service-providing companies. Achieving the ISO 14001 certificate provides the opportunity to emphasise a further important step towards improving environmental performance. The environmental management system builds on the already established ISO 9001 quality management system.

ISO 45001
Is an international standard for occupational health and safety that sets out requirements for the development of a sound management system. Certification to ISO 45001 by an independent body proves that the company has a legally compliant system in place and drives progress. Implementing a management system in accordance with ISO 45001 offers the decisive advantage that ISO 45001 takes a holistic and practical view of risks and opportunities.
